Bike parking
Don’t forget where you parked your bike in some of these monster-sized bike parking lots in Japan or you’ll never find your bike again.
Mt. Fuji and the fisherman
Some days Mt. Fuji is there for the seeing but it can’t be seen. The humidity and brightness of the sun turn the sky and everything in the distance more or less white. On those days, as the sun drops Fuji San makes its appearance. I think this fisherman was too busy to notice.
Tanzawa Ridge
While on the hike I mentioned back in April, I came upon the ridge you can see in the right side of this picture. This is the trail, so if you want to make the loop you have to cross it. On either side of the narrow path are steep cliffs. One false step and you are a goner. Needless to say, you don’t want to be on this ridge during an earthquake, in poor weather, or while intoxicated. In virtually any other situation, you should have no problem getting to the other side as I did.
Approaching Toshogu in May
The approach to Toshogu in May is quite a contrast to how it looked in February on a snowy day–lush, lush, lush green as opposed to the frozen, white winter. Even though they are polar opposites, it’s hard not to like them both.
Ginza Bars
Today’s photo is of a few buildings in Ginza which are absolutely loaded with “bars.” Those who visit these kinds of small bars are usually regulars since many operate on the bottle-keep system. Many customers may have their own bottle kept for them behind the counter. This is just a relatively small glimpse of the many similar establishments within a few blocks of this location. Literally, there are hundreds.
So it isn’t surprising that, as an owner, it may be difficult to select a name that hasn’t already been chosen. Hence, a bit of zoom on the above picture revels the following:
