This church was originally built in the 13th Century. The Russians bombed it to smithereens in 1944 (sound familiar?). The rebuilding took almost 30 years, from 1953 until 1981.
Like most other educated countries (except the ignorance-loving USA) in the world (Japan, Sweden, Denmark, Czech Republic, etc.), less than 20% of Estonians believe in god(s) so this building now serves as a museum.
