Tanabata 七夕
Today (July 7) is Tanabata in Japan. This is a rather low-key holiday, but you will likely see wishes hanging from bamboo around town. There may something bigger going on near you so check a festival calendar.

Happy Tanabata!! A popular Tanabata custom in Japan is to write wishes on a small piece of paper and hang them on a specially decorated bamboo tree in hope that the wish will come true.
