This year’s festival is the 40th annual and takes place this Saturday (August 10, 2019). If you happen to be in Japan, you may want to head over to Inuyama for a wonderful evening. Lots to do during the day in Inuyama as well, including the Meiji Mura open air museum.

There are a lot of really cool festivals in Japan. However, the one that is nearest and dearest to my heart is the Shingen-Ko Matsuri (信玄公祭り), which takes place in Kofu every spring. Perhaps it’s because Kofu is the first place I lived in Japan. In any event, I was there for the 17th and 29th renditions of the festival. I was many months too late to catch the 42nd version, advertised in today’s photo. The 48th edition will happen next year.

I have never been fortunate enough to be in Fukuoka for the first half of July to witness first hand the Hakata Gion Yamakasa, but the display, in miniature, at the nearby museum is pretty cool.
