Raiders upset Eastern

Last night’s victory was a crazy affair. The lead changed 21 times and the score was tied 42 times, including 15 times in the final set! Sporting events don’t get any more exciting.

Note that tonight’s match (against College of Idaho) will be an early start, 5 p.m. instead of the normal 7 p.m. The Raiders and Yotes have identical conference records. This may be another barn burner that you don’t want to miss.

NAIA Men’s Cross Country #2

@SOURaiders

The Southern Oregon University men’s cross country team is ranked #2 in the nation. Unfortunately, they don’t have any races in Southern Oregon so I have no photos of them except for the times when they attend other athletic events on campus, like this volleyball game a couple weeks ago.

Despite taking their first loss in the CCC this past weekend (a loss to Concordia on the road), the Southern Oregon University volleyball team jumped two spots in the national rankings to #14. This weekend they take on the #11 and #32 teams in the country, Eastern Oregon and College of Idaho in Ashland.

Crater comes to Ashland today

Crater High School is coming down I-5 to Ashland today (9/23/14). They dropped down to 5A this year, same as Ashland High School. I’m not sure why as they have about 50% more students, but, in any event, they have become a formidable opponent in most sports for the Grizzlies.

At 4 p.m. at North Mountain Park they will take on the girls soccer team. Ashland has lost only one game this season.

Then, at 7 p.m., Crater’s 9-1 volleyball team will take on Ashland’s 7-1 team in the AHS gym.

The Southern Oregon University Raiders have risen to #7 (from #9) in the national rankings.

They travel to Montana (for the first of three times this season) to face Montana State University (Northern) this weekend.

School’s in session

Actually, school doesn’t start until next week, but SOU has athletic competitions this week.

Details of yesterday’s game against the College of Idaho Yotes can be found here. Today’s photo sequence shows the section that says “The final score was tacked on when Daniel Breaux’s sack forced a fumble, making way for Daniel Abernethy to scoop it up and cruise in from 43 yards out.”

GameDay

@SOU_Football @SOURaiders

Today’s photo is from the game two weeks ago with Carroll College. During the third quarter large amounts of smoke from California blew into Ashland, and by the end of the game the blue sky was completely gone.

Today’s game against College of Idaho is again at Ashland High School. The new turf at Raider Stadium is more or less done and will be used, not today but, next Thursday for the first time for soccer. The Southern Oregon University football team will play their next home game there.

Arrive early if you want to sit in the shade. The forecasted temperature at kickoff is 90 degrees, and the forecast for the end of the game is 96 degrees.
