Arlo Brooks

Northwest Pizza and Pasta Company has transformed itself under new ownership over the past year and a half. They now have an open mic night. After hours they have started having live acts as well.

I headed to Northwest last night to hear Twice Born Gypsies, a band I’d never heard of before, but the “psychedelic space rock” description sounded good. “Fuck! A Monster” was listed as the opening act on the ad I saw, but given that members are also in FatherDoug (who was playing in Medford at the same time), I figured that wouldn’t happen. Arlo Brooks, who is in Fuck! A Monster but not FatherDoug, opened. His set was a trip, and everything he used to make the sounds he created fit in his backpack.

Jolene whipped up some more of her creations yesterday. The one in focus in today’s photo is her Chocolate Turtle Cake, a rich, three-layer dark chocolate cake frosted with rich creamy fudge, caramel, and toasted pecans.

I headed in to Club 66 for lunch today. Until yesterday, the drink menu consisted of Rockstar and soda.

Now these empty glasses…

…can be filled with beer.

Bring your family for lunch or dinner, but once 8 p.m. rolls around you now have to be 21 at Club 66. Tonight’s hip hop / reggae show (Absract Rude, Mista Chief, Ekrostik, Stryk9, LuciBe, Efxhand, etc.) should have a huge crowd.

Witch Cult @ Club 66 (2/27/13)

Witch Cult opened for Sarcalogos last week at Club 66. If you were there, no doubt you will be there on March 20 when they will open for Witchaven and Exmortus. If you weren’t there, you will have another chance.

Eric Thompson – Southern Oregon University Men’s Basketball

Eric Thompson scored 30 points today to lead the Raiders to a first round win in the NAIA tournament over Madonna. ET made five of his six three-point attempts in addition to pulling down nine rebounds. The Raiders will play again on Friday night.

SOU basketball – Taylor Roos

The Southern Oregon Men’s Basketball Team will play Madonna University of Michigan tomorrow (3/6/13) in a first-round match at the 2013 NAIA Division II Men’s Basketball Championships. The game will be televised in Ashland at RedZone beginning at 2 p.m. Unfortunately, I will be teaching a class at that time.
