SOU Women’s Basketball

I tried out a new lens this past Tuesday at the Southern Oregon University women’s basketball game. The Nikon 85mm f/1.4 D produced the above result at an aperture of 1.4 and a shutter speed of just 1/1250 of a second (an exposure time I’m not used to indoors with gym lighting). I didn’t even need to bump the ISO up very high to get that kind of shutter speed. This is at an ISO of 800. Needless to say, I’m very happy with the results. The isolation and sharpness of the subject, while leaving the background in a state of creamy bliss, is just what I was hoping for.

Slow Children, a band from Brookings (I think), opened for Floater. They sounded pretty good, sometimes sounding a lot like Floater in fact. Turns out there are numerous bands with this same name. They probably should have found a name that hasn’t already been taken. Anyway, they came out for Floater’s encore to play Helter Skelter as a six piece band. Check it out…

More Floater
I remembered to change the microphone to low sensitivity (under movie settings) on my Nikon D7000. That made the audio sound pretty good most of the time, but it still has a problem when a really heavy bass kicks in as you will hear (especially during the first song, My Burden, below) during parts of the following videos. I think I will purchase an external microphone and attenuator for next time to see if I can get better results.
I had to manually focus these videos as the lighting in the Rogue Theatre is really poor. Floater was pretty much playing in the dark.

“Jesus Loves You But I’m His Favorite” reads the nun’s t-shirt. The posters in the background are for the Oregon Shakespeare Festival (OSF) which just wrapped up its 2011 season last week.
Roger Waters – The Wall Live – AT&T Park – San Francisco
On May 11, 2012 Roger Waters will be performing The Wall Live in San Francisco in front of probably 60,000 people. I have seen Roger three times on his prior solo tours, and they are not to be missed. In fact, I saw him on this very tour in 2010 in San Jose. However, I was close to the stage for that one and now need to take in this show again from a different perspective. My view will be the one pictured above. Imagine The Wall being built in shallow center field, and you’ll be getting the picture.
Tickets go on sale tomorrow (11/18/11), but I bought mine during the presale.
