Clouds over Grizzly

Photo taken in August 2008

Ashland’s unique location, between two mountain ranges, provides for some interesting shadows and cloud formations.

Crazy clouds

The last few days have been very sunny but very cold–Winter cold not Fall cold. The mountains even got a bit of snow (photos coming soon).

This is SOU’s Raider Stadium. SOU had a football game Friday or Saturday night, but it was far too cold to think about going.

Crater Lake

My 10-year old daughter is in an after school photography class. For the next few days I’ll showcase some of her work. She took the above picture yesterday on her class field trip to Crater Lake, the deepest lake in the U.S.A. and ninth deepest in the world. Crater Lake is the third deepest lake in the world and deepest in the Western Hemisphere if the average depth is used as the measuring criteria.

I was hoping that there would be snow along the rim, but, as you can see, it hasn’t stuck yet. Later in the day it started snowing rather heavily, and they made their exit while they still could.

Crater Lake is northeast of Ashland in Southern Oregon. The island you see in the middle is known as Wizard Island.

Sunrise

The sun is about to rise. The 7 a.m. flights from Medford to San Francisco have left their marks on the sky.

Squaw Lake

Photo taken in September of 2004

Not far from Ashland is Squaw Lake, a cute little place which is usually devoid of people. The shores were covered in butterflies the day we visited.

Cloudy day

My daughter, who was 9 at the time, took this picture through her bedroom window on June 6, 2007. Our mountains are in their transition phase in early June. They aren’t as green as they were a month or two before, but they aren’t nearly as brown as they get later in the summer either.

This is pretty much the same view as this one. The difference is that the one above was taken five months later.

Walker Elementary School

A scene from the playground at Walker Elementary School in May of 2007. The sun was beginning to set and the clouds were looking most unusual.
