Great Salt Lake
The Great Salt Lake (in the distance) from a Fruit Heights neighborhood… The “mountain” in the lake is Antelope Island State Park.
West Ashland
Continuing my walk on Ridge Road from an entry 3 or 4 days ago, this is a view across Lithia Park from the east looking west. You can make out pieces of Strawberry Lane (where I took a nasty spill on my bike many years ago before they paved it) and Scenic Drive.
The nice thing about Ridge Road is you can see so many different things from it. Look to the south for nice views of Mt. Ashland and the Siskiyou Mountain Range; to the west you get Lithia Park (if you look down) and this; to the north is downtown, Oregon Shakespeare Festival, and the Ashland Springs Hotel; and to the east you can see SOU, Grizzly Peak, and much more.
Fall Sunroom
My favorite time to be in the sunroom isn’t when it is sunny. It gets too hot then and we have to use an awning to block the sun (and most of our view). This time of year when our Japanese Maple trees go nuts with color or during a rain storm are my favorite times of the year to curl up on the coach in the sunroom with a good book. My daughter, above, seems to agree.

Fall wood pile
I took the above photograph a few weeks ago from my driveway. We have no fences between our house and the neighbor’s, but there is a wood pile that sort of separates the two properties. I like this shot because even though there are several inches of leaves on the ground, there are still plenty left in the trees too. With the storms of the past week, there are no longer many left in the tree. Time to get out the rake…
Jack-o-lantern house
This is the aforementioned house at night. I don’t think they quite made it up to one jack-o-lantern a day this year. Perhaps they also counted the bats hanging on the porch to get to the correct number of days.

Granite Street in Ashland is famous for its catering to trick or treaters. Many houses get very decked out. One in particular (shown in tomorrow’s entry) turns into a haunted mansion. Children are invited in for a tour by the witch on the porch. Only some come back out. Expect to hear some screams.
Halloween is coming…
While the upcoming election has taken over the front yards of most houses in town, Halloween is winning the battle in this home’s front yard on Siskiyou Boulevard.
Jack-O’-Lantern calendar
You need no calendar in my neighborhood when October rolls around. Just drive by the above house and count the jack-o’-lanterns. If it isn’t evening yet, add one to the number and you’ve got the current date. You see, each night they carve a pumpkin and put it out front. Every night they are all lit up. My kids love going by the place daily in October to see the new carving of the day. On Halloween, 31 jack-o’-lanterns are all glowing for the trick or treaters. However, our street never gets more than just a few (because it’s up a steep hill) so not many know of this house in town.
