Fall leaves are long gone now that we enter December
Now that we’ve begun the wettest and coldest time of the year, I really miss the other seasons. Today’s photo, from the Japanese maple tree in my backyard, is from less than a month ago.

Today’s photo is from fall of 2010, and the location for this picture was the swimming reservoir in Lithia Park.

I took today’s photo back in November on my then brand-new deck. With the fallen Japanese maple leaves I couldn’t really see the deck though.

I took today’s photo on my Nikon D7000 with a cheap 50mm f/1.8 lens at f/5. To see what it looks like on the widest aperture of f/1.8 click here.
A sea of leaves on SOU campus
I think this is where the season Fall got its name.
The best time to photograph leaves on the ground in autumn, it turns out, is on a Monday morning. Soon after I took this photo a machine moved across campus obliterating all traces of their existence. Of course leaves continued to fall, but they don’t last long during the working weekdays.
I went by Triangle Park in town hoping to take some pictures of the vast quantities of leaves there too. However, maintenance workers had scooped them all up earlier in the day. Next year I’ll have to beat them to the punch.

Are you sick of the fall foliage yet? Me neither. I took today’s photo earlier this week in the morning before the crowds gathered in Lithia Park to enjoy these trees in their splendor.
