Winter is cold, long, and bleak. I need to look at old photos like this one to remember what life was like just a little over a month ago.

A little over a month ago, Ashland looked like this from the trail that switches back and forth in Hald Strawberry Park. The scene isn’t as pretty now, but the landmarks of the Ashland Springs Hotel and the Elizabethan Theater in the OSF complex are still there of course. I should try this shot again the next time it snows in town.

Nikon has just lowered the price of the camera that I have used for most of the images on this blog for the past year and a half. Perhaps the next version of the D7000 (the rumored Nikon D7100) will be coming out soon. Or maybe Nikon just wants to sell a bunch of D7000s for Christmas. This year’s campus theme at SOU is “Happiness”, and the Annual Stevenson Union Photo Contest is for photos dealing in some way with happiness. I can’t win the contest since I am faculty and not a student, but I thought it would be fun to enter anyway. I submitted four photos, and this was one of them. I’m looking forward to seeing the chosen photos on display early next year.

This is a pic of the Ashland High School varsity volleyball team this past season.

I mentioned on my other blog several weeks ago that I did some photography for a friend who is opening a catering business in Ashland. Maybe catering isn’t the right word. She is opening a bakery of sorts, but she is doing the baking out of her own home so bakery isn’t quite the correct way to put it either.
