The 16-4 Raider softball team will play 8 games over the next few days in California. They will be playing ranked teams like Simpson, Biola, and Concordia (California) so a strong showing could put the Raiders in the rankings when the next poll comes out on March 17.

Some of you may have found your way here through the link on souraiders.com. I have had several people email me asking questions about buying prints or about finding all of my photos for a certain sport.

The photos I post here are a small fraction of the photos I actually have. If you would like to print any of the photos on this blog, you are welcome to do so at no charge. Be sure to click on the photo to get to the higher resolution size which will print with more quality. If you want to use them on the web (Facebook, Pinterest, Twitter, etc.), you are welcome to do so if you link back to traveljapanblog.com/ashland with the photo or link back to the URL with source of the photo.

If you would like me to search through all of my photos and send you photos of the particular athlete you are looking for I charge a reasonable fee for the time it takes me to find all of those photos and to process them for you. I do not normally sell prints. I email you the high quality electronic files in .jpg format, and you can do the printing and framing yourself through a local or online service. My email is on this page or you can comment (leave a reply) to a blog entry to communicate.

Track and Field – Coming in April 2015…

Raiders continue running around their opponents

The Southern Oregon University women’s basketball team has dominated their opponents in recent weeks, including a win earlier this week in blow out fashion to move to the semifinals of the CCC playoffs. Tonight they host OIT in Ashland. Game time is 7 p.m. Unfortunately, I will be out of town. A Raider win and EOU loss will give the Raiders one final home game next week. Otherwise, this will be the last basketball game ever in McNeal after nearly 60 years of use.

#8 Raider women play tonight

@SOURaiders @SOU_WBB

The first round of the CCC tourney begins tonight in Ashland at 7 p.m. The 25-3 Raiders are already a lock for the 2015 NAIA National Women’s Basketball Tournament, which begins March 11 in Sioux City, Iowa, but a strong showing in the CCC tournament can earn them one of the top seeds (and possibly weaker opponents in the early rounds) in the national tournament.

A win tonight against College of Idaho will give them another home game in the second round of the conference tourney on Friday. More details can be found here.

P.S. The rankings just came out and SOU is still at #8. Only one other team with 3 or fewer loses is outside of the top four. There is probably some middle-of-the-country bias against teams in the west (like in the NAIA football rankings which tend to penalize Frontier Conference teams) so the Raiders will need to prove themselves at the national tournament.

Casey Coulter, Devin Poppen, Tyler Cowger, Dalton Urrutia, Garrett Urrutia, Brock Gutches, Reed Tennyson, Ryan McWatters, Jacob Abrams, Charles Johnson, and Clayton Burtis will be off to Kansas City in March to compete in the 2015 NAIA Wrestling National Championships.

Softball Players of the Week

It’s pretty unusual for the CCC to pick both their offensive and defensive players of the week from the same team, but the SOU Raiders had a pretty unusual week going 6-0, including a 4-1 victory over the #10 team in the country. This is a pretty unusual team, with their 16-4 record and roster made up of seven freshmen. They were picked to come in 5th place in the CCC, and, although the CCC games haven’t begun, this team looks better than a 5th place team.

Mt. Shasta

I never grow tired of gazing at Mt. Shasta. I have taken about ten photos from this same location (and posted about four or five of them including this one most recently), but they all look different depending on the time of day, season, and clouds. This location, by the way, is the first (of several) official viewpoints on I-5 heading south from Oregon. I was on my way down to Oakland this past Friday when I took today’s photo.

Tonight the last regular season home basketball games will be played which means it’s senior night. Women start at 5:30 and men start at 7:30. Tonight’s games will have playoff implications so come on out and support the Raiders.

After a huge (no pun intended) block by Sean Tow opened the hole, Jeremy Scottow was off to the races on this 11-yard carry to end the third quarter in SOU’s win over St. Xavier University on the road.

Let’s Play Two

Your last chance to catch the 10-4 Raiders at home for a while is today. They play two starting at 1 p.m. at University Field which is located at the corner of Iowa and Wightman Streets in Ashland. The weather looks great (should be close to 60 degrees and sunny), and there won’t be another home game until March 7.

The Raiders will be looking for a bit of revenge against the University of British Columbia today as UBC was the Raiders only loss to a team not ranked in the NAIA Top 10 or in the NCAA. More details on today’s games can be found here.
