Google maps labels the biggest Deadfall Lake as “Deadfall Lakes”. That’s actually Middle Deadfall Lake. The one pictured above is a bit northwest, and quite a bit smaller–especially in summer, of Middle Deadfall Lake. Signs near here say “Toad Lake”, but Toad Lake is actually about four miles from here.
The hike to this lake is a nice day trip from Ashland. About an hour and a half drive south of Ashland, you’ll want to start at the “Pacific Crest Trail – Etna Summit trailhead”. If 4+ miles isn’t enough for you, there are several longer options including summiting Etna Mountain (the far left peak–mostly hidden by trees in the foreground–in this photo), Smith Lake, and/or Meeks Meadow Lake.

The College of Idaho did not receive hosting privileges. I’m not sure if they didn’t apply or if they were snubbed by the fact that two other CCC teams were already chosen. Massey has them at #2 in the country. They’d probably be ranked #1 by the coaches if they were in any other conference. Were it not for blemishes on their W-L record courtesy of OIT and SOU, they’d be 43-1!
