Despite taking their first loss in the CCC this past weekend (a loss to Concordia on the road), the Southern Oregon University volleyball team jumped two spots in the national rankings to #14. This weekend they take on the #11 and #32 teams in the country, Eastern Oregon and College of Idaho in Ashland.
Crater High School is coming down I-5 to Ashland today (9/23/14). They dropped down to 5A this year, same as Ashland High School. I’m not sure why as they have about 50% more students, but, in any event, they have become a formidable opponent in most sports for the Grizzlies.
At 4 p.m. at North Mountain Park they will take on the girls soccer team. Ashland has lost only one game this season.
Then, at 7 p.m., Crater’s 9-1 volleyball team will take on Ashland’s 7-1 team in the AHS gym.

Actually, school doesn’t start until next week, but SOU has athletic competitions this week.
The Southern Oregon University volleyball team moved up a notch to #15 in the new national rankings released today. Eastern Oregon is #11. College of Idaho is #28. Eastern will be in Ashland next Friday night and College of Idaho will be here the following night (9/27/14).

SOU senior Nikki Keller received Cascade Conference honorable mention for her volleyball defensive efforts even though the Raiders only had one contest last week. She was in on 9 blocks in the Southern Oregon University victory over OIT.
The Raiders will travel to Portland this week to take on Warner Pacific and Concordia on Friday and Saturday nights.
Details of last night’s victory can be found here.
Their next game in Ashland is Tuesday (9/16/14) @ 6:45 p.m. vs. Henley, although that game won’t be nearly as important as the game a week later at the same time and day of the week in the Ashland High School gym against Crater. Crater High School is in the same league this year, and they are also undefeated.

Hot starts to the 2014 campaign by Cole, Gasman, and Atanda have propelled the Raiders to an 8-2 record and into the national rankings for the first time this year.
Eastern Oregon is ahead of them in the rankings at #14, and they will be playing in Ashland on 9/26. Tomorrow night (9/10), Oregon Tech will be playing in Ashland. Come on out for a 7 p.m. start.

Motade executed 60% of her attacks on Thursday and Friday nights. (A hitting percentage over 25% is considered excellent, and an average hitting percentage is below 20%.)
SOU Volleyball will play at home against OIT this Wednesday night.
