Descending Mount Misen (弥山)

Miyajima’s Daishoin steps lined with Buddha statues

There are several ways up and down Mt. Misen on the island of Miyajima (AKA Itsukushima). Most people take the ropeway. Be adventurous and ascend and/or descend on foot instead, through Daishoin (大聖院) and these steps.

   I apparently turned off my brain and decided it was a good idea for me and my girlfriend to take the ropeway up and walk down. Unfortunately I didn’t factor in the length of the way and the shoes that my girlfriend wore. Ouch.
