Autumn Morning on Lake Sortedam by Christen Kobke (NY Carlsberg Glyptoteket)

sortedams so art copenhagen Efterårsmorgen ved Sortedamssøen

As mentioned yesterday, today we are leaving Copenhagen. Our place, right next to Lake Sortedam, will be missed. I’d like to be close to the lakes again next time, but on a less busy street. I walked, or more often biked, along this lake nearly each of the past 36 days. Although it’s summer, many days looked as gloomy as this fall day in Kobke’s painting from nearly 200 years ago. On those sunny days, between storms, the lakes looked marvelous.

On the surface Copenhagen isn’t changing at all. But the new things do stand out and surprise me when I spend a month here every few years.

So far I’ve posted about 35 photos from this trip. After deleting hundreds of photos, I still have about 4,000 to go.

New Inderhavnsbro bridge

Inderhavnsbro

After five weeks in Copenhagen, I depart for London tomorrow. I’m sad to leave. Those were some fun weeks despite mediocre weather most of the time. Maybe I’ll be back next summer.

Today’s photo is of a new pedestrian and bike bridge in Copenhagen that links Nyhavn with Christianshavn. The bridge is a draw bridge and is nicknamed “the kissing bridge” for the way it connects back up. In the background is the Copenhagen Opera House. We rented a boat for a couple hours through friendships.dk from which I took this picture.

A few nights back we stumbled upon a full moon over Nyhavn. Last night was this sunset.

Picnic in the courtyard

Out my bedroom window

After weeks of hit-and-miss (mostly miss) weather, Copenhagen has been beautiful the past week. Everyone is out and about. The picnic table far below my bedroom window is getting a workout.

Black Sabbath @ 2016 Copenhell

Black Sabbath @ 2016 Copenhell

At the last minute, Black Sabbath said “no” to pit photography. Initially I was a bit pissed, but it worked out for the best as I got a great spot, nearly dead center in front of the mixing booth so everything sounded perfect. In addition, the crowd around me was great. Had I shot from the pit for the first three songs, I probably would have had a horrible location for the rest.

What a fine show it was! My final time seeing Black Sabbath live, after seeing Ozzy (and Dio) solo in the 80s and Black Sabbath in the 90s and 00s.

Hollywood Vampires @ Britt tomorrow

Alice Cooper @ 2016 Copenhell

The Hollywood Vampires are playing at Britt Festivals on 7/23/16. I will miss the show as I’m still in Denmark, but I did get to catch part of the show at Copenhell a few weeks ago. Alice Cooper did a portion of the set as part of his own. I thought it was excellent.
