Voss Stone Church (Voss kyrkje or Vangskyrkja)

voss kyrkje vangen stone church voss norway Vangskyrkja

When you read about “Norway in a Nutshell” it seems that the train ride and going through the fjords will be the highlights. Perhaps they are, but the bus ride from the fjord (Gudvangen) to Voss is amazing too. In Voss, while waiting for the train, I walked around town and took this photo of Voss’s 13th Century stone church. It boggles my mind to see buildings that have been standing for hundreds of years before Columbus “discovered” America. Luckily this building wasn’t destroyed (like much of Voss) during German bombing in WW2.

Viking ship (Oseberg ship) in the Viking Ship Museum

authentic real viking ship oslo norway

From central Oslo you can catch a ferry over to Bygdøy to check out the Viking Ship Museum (Vikingskipshuset på Bygdøy). There isn’t much in the museum except for three, original, viking ships. All three are very cool, but I like this one the best. Perhaps the finest find of the Viking Age, you can read more about the Oseberg ship here.

Opeth, Mastodon, and Ghost on tour together

mastodon opeth ghost tour 2012

I have seen these three bands a combined nine times in the past few years so it’s only fitting that they are touring together. I’ve been in the photo pit for all three too. Now the question is, since they aren’t coming anywhere near me, do I make a road trip to bump the nine times to twelve times? Hmmmmm…. Sounds like a fun evening but a long drive.

Tickets are now on sale so check the tour dates to see if they are coming to a town near you.

Case Logic DCB-308 SLR Camera Sling Backpack

Case Logic DCB-308 SLR Camera Sling backpack nikon d7000 70-200

I really love my Caselogic SLRC-205 SLR Camera Sling Bag. It is the perfect size for a DSLR with lens attached if you only need to bring along one extra lens (or no extra lenses and a lunch or water bottle). However, if the lens attached to my Nikon D7000 is my 70-200mm f/2.8G VR II then it doesn’t fit. The 70-200 lens fits fine as the spare but not when it is on the camera body.

So I decided to get a second sling bag (pictured above), just a little bigger than the first. Well, it arrived today and even though it is roomier, my D7000 still doesn’t fit if my 70-200mm f/2.8g lens is attached. Rats! I’m keeping it, though, as this bag can fit multiple lenses, lunch, and a netbook computer or iPad in addition to a DSLR with lens attached. The DCB-308 will be handy on my trip back east this summer. I just wish it was an inch or two deeper so that I could have my 70-200mm lens attached while carrying.

Today’s random desktop image is this one. I took this photo out the window of the Flåm Railway train, a train ride I will never forget.

Boston Red Sox tickets went on sale this morning

Fenway Park

This June we are taking a vacation to New York and Boston. I’m planning on seeing the Yankees, Mets, and Red Sox. This morning individual, single-game tickets went on sale for the Red Sox so I grabbed up four seats not too far behind the dugout. They weren’t cheap, but I’m happy. Look for some photos from the game on this blog in late June.

Here is a more close-up view of our seats (B157, Row BB) labeled “HERE” in the images:
