One of the highlights of this past summer was being able to photograph bands like Accept. My concert photography opportunities have been dwindling lately. I was supposed to photograph GWAR last week, but their guitarist, Cory Smoot, died and the show was cancelled. I’ll probably take a few shots of Floater this weekend, but the venue has really poor lighting so I’m not expecting anything amazing.
I took today’s photo at 2:29 a.m. in early July in the farthest place north I’ve ever been–Gävle, Sweden. I had no tripod so there are no photographic tricks of light here. The shutter on my D7000 remained open for a mere 1/200th of a second. The sky never became totally dark on this evening/morning. A long sunset turns into a long sunrise this far north in the summer. I was walking back to my hotel through Gamla Stan, Gävle’s “Old Town”, from the Getaway Rock Festival.
The Old Town of Gävle contains many buildings from the 17th Century and the cobble stone streets are also from that time period.
I would have really liked to have witnessed Death Angel again on their current tour. Alas, they bypassed Southern Oregon, like most bands do, and played in Portland to start the tour and will play in Reno to end it. Too bad they didn’t add Ashland or Medford to the beginning or the end of the tour. Today’s photo is from this past summer in Sweden.
There were many scenes I couldn’t capture while doing “Norway in a Nutshell” simply because the train was moving and the photos wouldn’t come out well. I took today’s photo (through the window still, but at least we weren’t moving) while the train made a brief stop.
