KIA K3 Home Run Zone (Gwangju, ROK)
I’m not sure if they will continue this tradition in the new Gwangju baseball stadium, but in the old stadium if a player hit a home run in which the ball hit the car beyond the stands in left field the player was awarded the car after the game. I was at one such game when Na Ji-Wan (나지완) hit the car. I asked the guy next to me if the car given to the player came with or without the dent, and he laughed.

Mudeungsan (무등산) creek
Whenever I tried to get others to climb around on Mudeungsan with me they would cower at the thought of hiking for hours on end. While one of the hikes I took was quite rigorous and long in both duration and distance, many people just get off at the bus stop and wander a few hundred feet to this creek. Compared to the city of Gwangju just 20 minutes away, this is like a whole different world. There is a relatively easy hike that goes along this creek for a few kilometers if you aren’t up for a hike to the top of the mountain.

October begins, and with it comes the grand finale in most professional baseball leagues. My A’s are still alive and well in the major leagues. My KIA Tigers in Korea tanked it big time. They were contenders a week or two after I arrived in Gwangju, but have won very few games since. The SK Wyverns lost to the Lotte Giants the night I saw this game despite this home run.
The playoffs are set for the 2013 Korean Professional Baseball (KPB) postseason, and they will not include the Tigers, Giants, or Wyverns.

What today’s photo doesn’t show, but when I look at it I’m instantly reminded of, is the heat of a summer in South Korea. Brutally hot and humid, one of the things I liked best about Busan is the subway was never far away. If I became too hot, I just got on one of the air-conditioned trains for a bit to recover.
