Accept releases Stalingrad today
A new CD from Accept comes out today… “Blood of the Nations” was just OK in my book, and I don’t expect “Stalingrad” to be much better. Accept probably won’t ever be better than “Restless and Wild” to me. I wouldn’t mind seeing them live again this summer.

Herman Frank, Peter Baltes, and Wolf Hoffmann of Accept
One of the highlights of this past summer was being able to photograph bands like Accept. My concert photography opportunities have been dwindling lately. I was supposed to photograph GWAR last week, but their guitarist, Cory Smoot, died and the show was cancelled. I’ll probably take a few shots of Floater this weekend, but the venue has really poor lighting so I’m not expecting anything amazing.

25 years ago, perhaps to the day, I had a ticket to see Accept open for Dio in the summer of 1986. The concert was cancelled and so that experience never happened. Accept faded from view; Dio died. I had seen Dio a few years earlier while I was in high school, but I never got to see Accept.
I never thought for a moment that 25 years later I would witness Accept in Sweden from the base of the stage. This was fun–a lot of fun.

Wolf Hoffmann of Accept
Wolf Hoffmann was full of energy, faces, and smiles all night long. He looked about half his years, and the crowd loved his enthusiasm.
Herman Frank of Accept
Herman Frank, Accept’s “other guitarist”, has only been with the band when they were at their IMO best (Restless and Wild, Balls to the Wall, and now). He was hurt (four broken ribs and a punctured lung) in a stage fall just a couple months before. This may have been his first show back in action.

Peter Baltes, on bass, is the only other constant member of Accept, along with Wolf Hoffmann.
Getaway Rock Festival 2011 (Gävle, Sweden)

I just returned to Copenhagen after four days in Sweden. I spent most of the time in a place north of Stockholm called Gävle where the Getaway Rock Festival 2011 took place. Today is just a preview, as I have loads of photos (about 3,000) and video (half a dozen or so) from the event (most of which I haven’t even looked at yet).

I was supposed to have a photo pass for just Death Angel and Opeth, but they gave me a press pass with access to the front of the stage for all of the bands. I didn’t protest. Nor did I abuse the priviledge. I used it only for the ten or so bands (of 70 performing) I wanted to see.
