Christmas Tree

No presents or tree last year in Japan (or Thailand where we were on Christmas day), but this was the scene last night in Utah. The presents no longer look anything like this.

Merry Christmas!

The photo in our holiday card is a bit old. Here is the original.

Temple Square Christmas Lights

We spent last Christmas on an island in Thailand. This year we are with family in Utah.

Ebisu Garden Place – Christmas Illumination

Christmas is different no matter where you go in the world. The Japanese Christmas shares little in common with Christmas elsewhere. Where else will you find the ultimate Christmas decoration to be a giant chandelier?

Today’s photo is from Ebisu Garden Place. If you look closely at the bottom of the photo (perhaps after making it larger by clicking on it), you’ll see a family getting their picture taken in front of the Baccarat Chandelier. I wonder if they used it as their nengajo (年賀状 or New Year’s Card)?

Merry Christmas

The Mitsukoshi (三越) Department Store in Nihonbashi (日本橋本店) features this 50-ft. tall Eco Christmas Tree (クリスマスツリー) with solar powered lights–about 25,000 of them.

Behind the tree is another large display which is more fitting for where we will be spending this day–on the beach in Thailand.
