I was completely blown away by an unfamiliar band a couple nights ago at the Historic Ashland Armory. I’ll post some more photos on my other blog soon.
I picked up Spellcaster’s “Under the Spell” at their show in Medford a couple nights ago. After a couple of listenings I have come to the conclusion that they sound most like an obscure band called Powermad. Although I don’t listen to it often, I find Powermad’s “Absolute Power” most enjoyable. “Under the Spell” is great too.

The perfect band to kill time to between Portishead and Ghost was Swans. I had no idea who Swans was, had never heard them, or of them, before. I merely walked from the Orange Stage to the Odeon Stage (where Ghost was going to be playing later) to wait for Ghost and Swans happened to be playing. What a trip they were…
A month from today Mastodon is poised to take over the world with The Hunter. Crack the Skye cracked the top 10 on the charts only in Norway, but I think The Hunter will make it into the top 10 everywhere.
Did you know that Ghost will be touring the US and Canada beginning next month? It’s true. Perhaps you can see them in person. The best part is that you won’t just get Ghost’s short set (they only have one CD). They are opening for my current favorite band, Enslaved. The two bands couldn’t be much more different so it will be interesting to see what people coming for Enslaved think of Ghost and what those coming for Ghost think of Enslaved.
I would love to see Ghost and Enslaved again, but considering I’ve seen them both twice now, and they aren’t playing anywhere near my location, I will not be making the road trip for these two bands this time around.
Here is a video I took of Ghost covering The Beatles’ “Here Comes The Sun”. Sorry for the poor audio on the bass. I was using auto sensitivity on my camera‘s audio, and I later learned that low sensitivity, instead of auto, works much better for loud concerts.
