Another photo today of Enslaved…
If all goes well, I’ll be leaving Norway soon, and I will have a fresh, new band from the Getaway Rock Festival for you tomorrow once I’m reunited with my computer in Copenhagen. Who would you like to see next? Alice Cooper? Kreator? Accept? Danzig? Opeth? F.K.Ü.? Ghost? I have more bands as well, almost too many to contemplate processing. I still haven’t looked at most of the photos I took in Sweden.

Enslaved are, to put it simply, the best band on the planet right now. Their last few albums, in particular, are absolute works of art. They mix the heavy with the softer sounds in such a delicate and breathtaking way that words can’t describe their creations. Their songs are complex and age well. Probably on the third or fourth listen their songs sound best, but they don’t get tiring after dozens or hundreds of listenings either.

Today I will visit their home base of Bergen, Norway for the first time. It rains most days in Bergen, but I hope the weather is good today.
Enslaved played inside the Gasklockorna, a building more than 100 years old that was once used for storage of the city’s supplies of gas and reminded me a bit of the Roman Pantheon.

I just returned to Copenhagen after four days in Sweden. I spent most of the time in a place north of Stockholm called Gävle where the Getaway Rock Festival 2011 took place. Today is just a preview, as I have loads of photos (about 3,000) and video (half a dozen or so) from the event (most of which I haven’t even looked at yet).

I was supposed to have a photo pass for just Death Angel and Opeth, but they gave me a press pass with access to the front of the stage for all of the bands. I didn’t protest. Nor did I abuse the priviledge. I used it only for the ten or so bands (of 70 performing) I wanted to see.

Yesterday I took a road trip down to Chico, California to see Enslaved and Opeth at the Senator Theatre. After my Static-X experience of poor audio quality on the video I took with my LX3 I planned to take only stills at this show. I did actually do a video experiment and it turned out great. I’ll show the Opeth video to you in a few days. So maybe the LX3 is OK for video afterall. Had I known, I would have taken far more video.
The lighting for Enslaved was really poor so the photographs are not the greatest. I have some much better ones of Opeth that I will show you over the next few days.
Enslaved is from Norway. Their last couple of CDs (Vertebrae and Ruun) are very good. Their music is very complex, yet melodic. If you like Opeth, Katatonia, Anathema, or Dimmu Borgir, but haven’t given Enslaved a listening then you should. They are the type of band that you may not love on the first listening, but after several times through their CDs you find yourself discovering more and liking their sound more with each listening. This is much better than bands you like right off the bat but then find yourself bored with after many listenings.
