The night before our trip to Thailand, we visited Ebisu to check out the lights. There was a nice crescent moon on that night a couple weeks ago, and Mt. Fuji could be seen as well (although it is a bit obscured by clouds in the above photo).
We are back from our Thailand vacation now, and I’ll start blogging that trip beginning tomorrow.
Meiji Jingu is to the right. Yoyogi Park is just past the trees. I don’t think this shot would have come out as well with my TZ7. I used my LX3 for this one.
Omotesando in Harajuku was quite beautiful in the morning on the last week of November. Few people were around, which is quite different from the norm. The trees were full of autumn color, and everything was generally “picture perfect.” However, I didn’t have my camera with me.
The next evening we visited again, this time with camera in hand. Lights were on the trees but they wouldn’t be turned on until the first Monday in December. Kiddy Land was tripped out for Christmas.
I spotted these two foreigners pretending to shop at Louis Vuitton.
And a wedding took place on Omotesando on this evening as well… You never know exactly what you will see on this street.
Last Friday night we went to Tokyo Midtown in Roppongi to check out the Christmas lights (referred to as illuminations or イルミネーション) and have some dinner. The restaurants with the good views in the Garden Terrace were all booked so we had some inexpensive, Vietnamese food without a view instead. Ironically, even though the place was packed, all the restaurants and shops closed at 9 p.m. We then headed over to Roppongi Hills where I took the above photo of the Tokyo Tower, which was lit differently than usual.
The Mori Garden was illuminated as it basked in the glow of Asahi TV Studio.
The Grass Square behind the Midtown Tower and Garden Terrace were the scene for this ever-changing light display.
Tokyo doesn’t grind to a halt when it rains. It doesn’t even seem to slow down. Thousands of mini-roofs, otherwise known as umbrellas, keep things moving.
Continuing the series on Waseda University, I went for a Sunday morning walk on campus earlier this week. The trees were changing colors so I decided to head to high ground in Building 11 for an interesting angle on the fall colors that I will show you in a future blog entry.
I was surprised to see Mt. Fuji out the west-facing windows as well. This was my first sighting of Mt. Fuji before dusk from Tokyo.

Above is Building 11, where I teach two classes a week. Building 11 is home to the School of Commerce, Graduate School of Commerce, Graduate School of Accountancy, Institute of Research in Business Administration, and School of International Liberal Studies (SILS).
The weekend before I took a shot from the top of Building 11 looking down on the Waseda Festival (Wasedasai or 早稲田祭). Unfortunately, I didn’t notice my camera settings were messed up, and the photo did not come out well. Students were doing a performance in front of the Okuma Auditorium. Thousands were in attendance. It was crazy walking through the crowds down below.
