Carp attack!
Jejumok-Gwana (제주목관아) Carp
I saw Hiroshima Carp earlier on this trip, but these were the first carp I saw in Korea. As I lowered my camera down toward the water they got really frisky.

Gwangju Mudeung Baseball Stadium
Crazy Kia Tigers fans
I have spent the past couple nights enjoying Korean Professional Baseball in Gwangju. The KIA Tigers are sort of the Oakland A’s of Korean baseball. They are a small market team, in an old stadium, who find ways to win. In fact, they have won more championships than any other Korean baseball team (ten). The fans are absolutely nuts. Literally, some of them are not quite right in the head. Not being able to speak Korean, I purchased a random ticket which happened to be right in the middle of the craziest of the bunch. Perhaps the ticket lady thought she was punishing me for not speaking or understanding Korean, but I had a blast (even if I did suffer some permanent hearing loss). The guy who sat behind me majored in English so he gave me a good history lesson on the Tigers and also on each of the lunatics before they came up to try to talk to me.
The KIA Tigers get a new stadium next year. You can see it being built behind left field in today’s photo.
Vernal Fall
Yosemite’s Vernal Fall
We weren’t planning on hiking up the Mist Trail to Vernal Fall because the trail was supposed to be closed for the season, and we weren’t sure if everyone in our party would be up for it. However, we wanted to see how far we could get. When we got to the “closed” section of the Mist Trail (above the footbridge and below Vernal Fall) people were going around the closed sign, and others (including little kids and babies on backs) were coming down from having hiked the closed section so we followed suit. There was no danger on that part of the trail on this day so I’m not sure why it was closed for the season. Maybe they have fixed dates based on typical snow patterns, and this was a warmer than usual year? There was no snow or ice on the trail. In fact, it was rather warm on this day in late March. We did get wet from the mist but not soaked like some people report in April and May.
I imagine this trail is crazy crowded in the summer. There were plenty of people on the Mist Trail in late March, but I’m guessing it was just a fraction of the normal traffic. This is not a hike you want to miss if you are in Yosemite!
