We had snow last week. Today we will be in the 80s. Welcome to spring in Ashland.

The crop of the above photo on souraiders.com is pretty crazy. I kind of like it, but in case you want to see the rest of the image I offer the latest installment in “The Whole Picture”.

I’m probably one of the few owners of the Tamron 150-600mm lens that has used it less for wildlife photography than for other types of photography, but here is a rare wildlife shot I have taken with it.

Green Grizzly

Grizzly Peak is brown for most of the year. Occasionally it will be white on top, and sometimes it is green on the side. However, an unusually warm winter and early spring, coupled with above average rain, has led to it being greener this March than at any other time I can remember.

blossoms and a sun star

The pink flowers in my front yard are several days gone now. These white ones in the backyard seem to have a longer life span, although many have fallen this week. I took this photo a week ago. As Ashland’s cherry blossom season ends, Japan’s is just beginning.

I rather like the sun stars my Nikkor 20mm f/1.8g AF-S lens produces at f/16.

Pink snow

The blossoms are all gone now, but last week (during a shower) they looked like they do in today’s photo.

Ten years ago this tree looked like this.

Now the little girl that was under that tree in 2005 drives the blossom-covered car pictured under this same tree.

Mt. Shasta

Mt. Shasta (left) and Black Butte (far right)

I never grow tired of gazing at Mt. Shasta. I have taken about ten photos from this same location (and posted about four or five of them including this one most recently), but they all look different depending on the time of day, season, and clouds. This location, by the way, is the first (of several) official viewpoints on I-5 heading south from Oregon. I was on my way down to Oakland this past Friday when I took today’s photo.
