The first few times I drove up or down I-5 through Ashland, long before moving here, I remember thinking how cool this town looked, all nestled up against the Siskiyou Mountain Range. I still feel that way even after almost 11 years as a resident.
I took this photo yesterday, near I-5, looking towards the main part of town. Grizzly Peak was at my back when I captured this image.
We got snowed on last night. You may remember how autumn and winter got confused back in November. Today’s photo demonstrates that spring and winter can get their signals crossed as well.
BTW, can anyone identify these blossoms? Are they cherry or plum? In Japan the plum blossoms appear in February and the cherry blossoms in April, but these look more like plum blossoms to me.
I’m really enjoying the level of detail my new camera is capturing. If you have a large screen, click on the image for a better view. Even the dew on the grass looks good. This deer was in my backyard when I went out to test a few different camera settings the other morning.
Part of the beauty of Stout Grove is that if you tire (not likely) of looking at the enormous redwoods, you can always take in the lower scenery featuring ferns, clover, and moss aplenty.
The cherry blossoms on our property began to open on Saturday when I took this photo. I misidentified them as plum blossoms (since I tend to think of Japan’s white cherry blossoms and pink plum blossoms) in a prior picture.
I took today’s photo (yesterday) from the Ashland Springs Hotel. The clouds made for some spectacular scenery and shadows. Grizzly Peak looks best this time of year as it isn’t normally this green.
We get lots of foggy sunrises in the winter and spring seasons. This one is from yesterday. There probably won’t be many more in the next 8 months. I like ’em, in part, because no two are the same.
I’m a morning person. So even though no one else was close to being up on our only morning in Brookings last week, I went out for a walk on the beach. According to the tide tables, this was to be the lowest tide of the month. Compared to the day before at high tide (in which we couldn’t even make it to the beach due to the high water level), this was a completely different scene. There was more beach than I could imagine. The last 100 feet or so of beach consisted of sand that didn’t appear to ever get dry. Even though the Pacific Ocean was still a ways out there, my shoes (and not just the bottoms) got wet in this super low-tide stuff. The sand was so wet, still, that it reflected the sky and made for a nice picture. I’m not sure if I like the dog running into the corner of the picture or not.
What a difference a few weeks can make! Remember this view of I-5 and horses through the barbed wire fence?
Better late than never I suppose. I forgot about St. Patrick’s Day last week so I’m giving you a dose of it today instead. Stout Grove is loaded with clover. We spent a good deal of time looking for a four-leaf clover with no success.
