Southern Oregon University Men’s Lacrosse

I have never really watched lacrosse before, not even on TV. I wasn’t planning on watching lacrosse on Friday night either, but the parking lot was full for SOU wrestling so I had to park in the stadium parking lot. Walking to the Bob Riehm Arena from there meant walking through this lacrosse match. Things seemed really exciting, and I would have liked to have stayed longer; however, it was 35 degrees outside, and I came prepared with no coat, gloves, or long johns.

Austin Lobsinger of Simpson University tangles with SOU’s Hank Turner in the heavyweight bout

The 2nd-ranked Southern Oregon University wrestling team scored a 26-19 victory over Simpson University (Redding, California) last night in Ashland. Tonight at 6 p.m. the Raiders will host rival Pacific University (Forest Grove, Oregon) in the annual Senior Night dual.

Fuck! A Monster @ Club 66 in Ashland, Oregon

Opening for 100 Watt Mind last Saturday night @ Club 66 was a band called “Fu*k! A Monster”. The punctuation in their name is very important because “Fu*k a Monster” has a completely different connotation than “Fu*k! A Monster”. In any event, a couple of their members are also in FatherDoug, who I wanted to see play later in the evening. Unfortunately, evening turned into morning, and I had to wake up by about 7 a.m., so I split after 100 Watt Mind at about 1 a.m. and missed Father Doug.

Last season, Oregon Tech was the #1 NAIA team in the country. This season they were ranked #2 early on, but SOU has beat them three times. Today’s sequence of photos is from the Raider victory this past Saturday night.

Brynna Dean of 100 Watt Mind @ Club 66

Last night was probably the seventh time I’ve had the privilege of seeing 100 Watt Mind live. While they always put on a great show, their performance last night had more energy than I have ever witnessed before. 100 Watt Mind absolutely killed it from beginning to end at Club 66 on this evening.

I have said it before, and I’ll probably say it again, but I love Club 66. I enjoyed a fantastic Caesar salad prior to 100 Watt Mind. The lighting is so good. So many small clubs do little or nothing in the lighting department, but I really appreciate a venue that puts forth the extra effort to make the lighting as professional as the sound.

100 Watt Mind is playing at Club 66 this Saturday night. Sweet Malloy, Fuck! A Monster, and FatherDoug are opening so don’t expect 100 Watt Mind to hit the stage before 11 p.m. or so.

The plaza in Downtown Ashland was once covered in trees. Right now there is nothing but a big mud hole. Apparently, one of the trees was diseased and another had some sort of future problem. So nearly everything has been ripped out, and a new plaza will be emerging in the next few months. Things are supposed to look good again by the end of March.

Today’s photo is of the last glimpse of one of the now gone trees. This tree was the last one in town to retain its autumn leaves–well into December.
