Cycle Oregon
Yesterday afternoon while taking my daily bike ride I couldn’t help but notice the thousands of tents being set up on the Iowa Street softball fields. I decided to go back last night to see what Cycle Oregon’s visit to Ashland would look like under the stars.
AHS soccer
I watched my first Ashland High School soccer game this past weekend. The JV team took on Klamath Union High School on the Ashland Middle School field.
September morning
Today’s photo is of the most common view on this blog, out my window. It has been many months since I’ve taken a pic from this location. The view has been rather boring this summer with endless days of either blue or smoky skies. But yesterday the sunrise was rather nice with the smoke (from the Goff (aka Fort Complex) Fire that has been burning thousands of acres in the Applegate for over a month now) mostly gone and some interesting clouds.
SOU Football 2012 kicks off today
School doesn’t start at SOU for almost a month, but today is the first football game of the 2012 season. Game time is 1 p.m., and the game will be played in Medford (Spiegelberg Stadium) against Montana-Western.
Soccer dreaming
I’m not a big Photoshopper. I like my images to look real. Usually the only things I do in Photoshop are crop, photomerge, and do minor work on lighting (to make things look more like they actually did–not less). I’m not a fan of HDR.
However, the original for today’s photo came out sort of strange. The grass near me had a dreamy, out-of-focus quality that I decided to push onto the rest of the image somewhat. I also lightened the shadows on the soccer player. What do you think?

SOU Women’s Soccer
The Southern Oregon University Women’s Soccer team won their first game of the season a couple days ago against Trinity Lutheran. Next game is this morning at 11.
Taina Kanar with the kill
I caught my first SOU volleyball game of the season this past Tuesday night. The gym floor at Southern Oregon University is being refinished so the Lady Raiders played against Pacific Union at the Ashland High School Gym instead (hence the Go Grizzlies banner in the background). They play some games on the road before coming back home (to Ashland High School again) on August 31. I can’t make that game but hope to be able to see them back in the Bob Riehm Arena on campus on September 4 against rival Oregon Tech in their conference opener.
Volleyball season begins again
This week was the Ashland High School Grizz Volleyball Camp. This weekend the SOU Women’s Volleyball team will play their first games of the 2012 season as they host a tournament in town. (We will be camping so I won’t be going to those games.) Next week there are tryouts for the Ashland High School volleyball team.
I don’t have to take many photos in the gym to realize how much easier it is to get good shots out of doors. Beach volleyball, baseball, etc. can yield much better results when it comes to photography.
