Cherry blossom bokeh

nikon nikkor 35mm f/1.8g lens bokeh

I purchased a new 35mm lens, and it arrived a few days ago. Today’s photo is one of my test shots I took in my front yard.

Much of the lens was paid for with an Amazon.com gift certificate that I won from Tokyo Mango so thanks Tokyo Mango!

No students on campus this past week since it was Spring Break. The only sign of life at SOU was my shadow.

RAW vs. JPG (RAW isn’t just for weird, indoor lighting)

raw versus vs. jpg landscape clouds contrast

I previously mentioned how I was getting better results working with RAW files in concert lighting situations. When going through my jpg image results I almost deleted the above image because the amazing clouds my eyes saw were totally ruined in the jpg file. Before hitting delete, however, I decided to see what I could do with the RAW file. Here is the result:

Cold Ashland Creek

This time of year, you never know what you are going to get. One day it’s sunny and warm; the next it’s cold and snowy.

Umphrey’s McGee

A couple weeks back I went to see 100 Watt Mind and Eric McFadden at the Historic Ashland Armory. I didn’t bring my camera that evening. The sound for that show was, once again, disappointing. The Eric McFadden Trio still put on a great show.

Fast forward to a few nights back and Umphrey’s McGee performed on the same stage. I don’t know if it was the fact that they brought a ton of their own equipment or if it was putting the mixing board on the floor, but the sound was fantastic–a first for the half dozen or so shows I’ve seen at the Ashland Armory.

I was unfamiliar with Umphrey’s McGee, but that didn’t matter. They were fantastic. I especially enjoyed the cover of Pink Floyd’s “In the Flesh.” I’ll be seeing Roger Waters perform it again in less than two months.

I had never even heard of Umphrey’s McGee until a few days ago. The show they put on at the Ashland Armory last night was nothing short of amazing. I have a few more photos I’ll post soon.

Rugby animation

women's rugby animation gif jpg

The above is my first attempt to animate a series of images. The color and texture got messed up on conversion. In addition, I made it too large so it doesn’t work at any resolution other than the original. If you are on a big screen, though, click on the above image for the animation.

Here is one of the files used to make the animation sequence.
