Gold Raiders 2014 @ SOU Commencement
Southern Oregon University began a new tradition at graduation last weekend. Alumni from the class that graduated 50 years before are invited to come back and walk again. So this year the Class of 1964 could be seen wearing gold and leading the Class of 2014 down the aisle of faculty in Raider Stadium.

I missed Hemorage the last time they came through as they went on fairly early and the SOU basketball game I was at went into overtime. Tonight they should be hitting the stage at about 10 p.m. Penitent goes on first at about 8:30. Burney Chair, consisting of most of Infernal Throne, will be in the middle.

Goodbye Ellen
We have all known that Ellen wasn’t going to be with us long for years now, but that doesn’t make her passing this morning any easier to take. We’ve been celebrating her life since we found out she had cancer several years ago, but I still can’t get past her death. Maybe it’s because my mom died of cancer last year or that my dad is dying of cancer right now. I don’t know. Ellen and I weren’t BFFs. In fact, I only saw her a few times each year, but I miss her terribly today.
10-Year Anniversary of SOU and Morinomiya College of Medical Arts and Sciences partnership

Dozens of Japanese students from Osaka have been coming to Ashland for the past ten years to learn about sports medicine from SOU trainers and others in the Rogue Valley. Today departing President Mary Cullinan commemorated the event on the SOU campus by planting a Japanese maple.

Summer’s here, and the flamingos are ready

When our neighbor’s flamingos got dressed up last month for Memorial Day I figured they’d be that way until after July 4th. However, they’ve gone Hawaiian for June. Maybe next June they will put on their caps and gowns for graduation season.
