Sammich’s Burg

sammich burg cheese burger

Sammich “Burg”
Ashland, Oregon

I had gone through nearly all of Sammich’s regular menu and enjoyed many of their specials as well before I tried the Burg. Typically I only order burgers at places when the rest of the menu stinks so it seemed pointless to order a burger at a place where the rest of the menu is fantastic.

Alas, my thinking was off, and I should have tried Sammich’s Burg long before. My first one was so good that the last two times I have gone to Sammich I have repeated my order. Unlike other places (which shall remain unnamed) in which the burger is sometimes undercooked, sometimes overdone, and sometimes features a stale bun, all three of my Burgs at Sammich have been identical in their deliciousness.

The #3 ranked Raiders defeated the #13 ranked Cavaliers of Concordia University (Portland) to quickly move to the top of the Cascade Conference standings. The Southern Oregon University Men and Women’s Teams will play again tomorrow night in Ashland (5:30 and 7:30 start times). Hopefully the roads will be a bit safer to drive on by then.

Autumn Durand was the top scorer with 25 points.

The reason I’m getting this out there so quickly tonight is I’m not at the game. I thought I was going when the party I was going to got cancelled due to the snow, but then I went outside and realized that my car would never make it through the eight inches of snow in the driveway, let alone down the hill.

You can watch the men’s game here.

Game time!

The Raiders begin CCC play tonight. Women play at 5:30. Men play at 7:30. Get your snow shoes on and head out the door now.

The campus will be a ghost town in another week, but there are some holiday lights between the new dorms (Shasta and McLoughlin Residence Halls).

All schools are closed in Ashland today

This is not what Ashland looks like at the moment. Today’s photo was taken back in January in the mountains to the east of Ashland. In fact, there is no snow in Ashland as I write this. However, the forecast is for snow so they have closed the schools.

Snow tracks

Snow has yet to fall in Ashland this winter. However, the forecast says snow will begin tomorrow morning and we are supposed to receive 2-4 inches tomorrow. Forecasts always seem to be wrong, though, so I’m predicting either no snow or 6-8 inches.

Today’s photo is from a couple winters ago.

#3 SOU vs. #13 Concordia this Friday evening

SOU Men's Basketball Kyle Tedder

I mentioned before that the men’s basketball team will face a tough opponent on Saturday night. However, while the pre-season coaches’ poll had Warner Pacific as SOU’s main competition, after the pre-season games, Concordia has moved into that position and up in the rankings to #13. SOU moved up one spot to #3. Concordia will be in Ashland Friday night. So come on out to the games. Women play at 5:30 and the men start at 7:30 both nights.

The first, regular-season edition of the NAIA Coaches’ Poll has the Lady Raiders in the #19 spot. The pre-season poll didn’t have them ranked at all, but an impressive 9-1 preseason featuring many blowout victories changed some coaches’ minds. Cascade Conference foes Oregon Tech (#16) and Eastern Oregon (#27) also received some votes, but the Raiders won’t be facing either team at home until late January.
