Real pine cones on our Christmas tree this year!
As mentioned previously, we cut down our own tree this year. The best part of this year’s tree is it includes pine cones–real pine cones, still attached pine cones.
Ellie
One of the main reasons I recently picked up a Nikon 70-200mm f/2.8G VR II lens was to photograph Ellie playing volleyball. However, it takes fantastic portraits in low light as well. The only lighting for this photo was Ellie’s computer screen and a distant light in the hallway. The room was actually quite dark.

I have six lenses as the moment, which is too many, so I’m looking to move a couple on Craigslist. I took a few shots with my Sigma 24-70mm f/2.8 lens and Nikon D7000 this morning. I’ll take some more after dark for additional samples to potential buyers.

Time to saddle up the sleigh. If Santa is missing any deer to guide his sleigh tomorrow night, he can find this one in my backyard all ready and rested to go.

Today’s photo is of the exact same scene, from the exact same seat, as yesterday’s photo. The only difference is the lens. Yesterday’s was at 200mm and today’s is at 10mm. Yesterday’s pic was not cropped at all. Today’s photo has been cropped a bit to make it centered correctly and to eliminate some of the ceiling so the difference of 190mm is even more extreme then this.

Last week Ellie performed in the Ashland High School Theatre. Every seat was taken and we ended up way in the back. At 200mm (no crop) I was able to capture a bit of the action.
Multnomah Falls

We didn’t end our bike ride at Mutnomah Falls, but our week of photos is over so I better get the most famous part of this ride in. Above is the “classic view” of the double-tiered falls, complete with the bridge you can walk on between them.

Next up, as you can see on the map of the Historic Columbia River Highway, was Shepperd’s Dell. Wiki says that these falls are difficult to photograph, but I beg to differ. A tripod would have been nice for several of my photos during the day, but at Shepperd’s Dell there was a great place to set my camera in order to open the shutter for a half second.
