Oregon Capitol Building

The Ellies again… this time heading into the capitol in their page attire.

Honorary Pages

Ellie, and her friend Ellie, went to Salem back in May to be honorary pages for a day. Here they are on the capitol steps before changing into their page outfits.

I-5 on the way to Salem

i-5 somewhere between medford and salem oregon

Today’s photo was taken by Ellie on Interstate 5 on the way to Salem, from inside of a moving car, back in May. I’m not sure if that is a rainbow or just glare from the window she was shooting through. In any event, it looks like it was a pretty drive. Oregon has a lot of these kinds of scenes.

Stick around for tomorrow’s entry to find out why Ellie was going to Salem.

Happy Father’s Day!

My wonderful kids made me breakfast this morning for father’s day–milk, fruit, and french toast with an egg in the middle which I had never had before. Apparently it is called “Egg in the Basket” or “Toad in the Hole.”

I tried out my new 24mm prime lens (Nikon Wide Angle AF Nikkor 24mm f/2.8D Autofocus Lens) on this shot, and I like the results. It’s very sharp, with no noise, even with the mixed lighting of mostly shadows. This little lens will definitely go in the bag for my trip to Europe later this week.

Mother’s Day in Scenic Park

Today’s photo is from Mother’s Day a few weeks back. This is what you are supposed to do with your mom on her special day. The place was Ashland’s newest park, Scenic Park near the Ashland Hospital.

Hula dancers at the SOU Hawaii Club Luau

Yuki, from Waseda University, was in pretty much every dance and did a fine job. I would have never guessed that she hadn’t done any hula dancing before this year.

15th Annual Ho’opa’a Hawaii Club Luau

Saturday night was Luau night at SOU. My view was nearly always obstructed, but I’ll post some shots from the great show over the next few days anyway.

Ellie becomes a teenager

This past weekend featured a slumber party of 11 girls at our house. (Two hadn’t arrived yet when I took this picture.)

Last year’s party took place at a park (Yoyogi Koen) in Tokyo, as it would have been quite impossible to have 11 girls sleep in our 700 sq. ft. apartment then.

Beach volleyball in Ashland

Garfield Park has a couple of sand volleyball courts. Ellie and her friends are enjoying their daily, after-school workouts.

Volleyball warmups

In middle school my daughter was asked to list three possible careers. One she chose was “professional volleyball player.” I must admit that, in this photo anyway, she shows pretty good form and height for a 12-year old.
