Crater Lake’s Wizard Island with Mount Thielsen behind and to the right of Llao Rock (September 2019)
@CraterLakeNPS #CraterLake
One thing I really enjoyed about biking all the way around Crater Lake was the ability to take in views from new vantage points.
We spent the past weekend near Smith Rock in Central Oregon. Today’s photo comes from a short break we took on the way home. 70 degrees, no people, and a faint smell of campfire to go along with the fresh, mountain air.
Not far from Crater Lake, but even closer to Diamond Lake, is the unusual Mt. Thielsen in Southern Oregon. The volcano that created the mountain has been extinct for a quarter of a million years and glaciers did a number on the rock, leaving this strange-looking shape.
I took today’s photo on our way to Bend last month.
