Continuing to follow the evolution of my neighbor’s pink flamingo lawn ornaments…
The blossoms are all gone now, but last week (during a shower) they looked like they do in today’s photo.
Ten years ago this tree looked like this.
Now the little girl that was under that tree in 2005 drives the blossom-covered car pictured under this same tree.

The Southern Oregon men’s basketball team upset #10 Midland University earlier today to move on to the next round of the NAIA Championship Tourney. The SOU women won yesterday. The women will play at 6:30 a.m. PST on Friday (3/13/15), and the men will play at about 11:45 a.m. Details and links to live stats and video here.
As I mentioned before, with a large amount of NAIA teams (and NAIA headquarters) coming out of the middle part of the country, there is bias in the polling against teams not from the Midwest. This is especially true for football, where the Frontier Conference is routinely snubbed, but the CCC is showing this is true for basketball as well. The Cascade Conference is 5-1 in the tournament so far, and even the one loss could have gone the other way.
SOU will be the favorite in both of Friday’s games so hopefully there will be no upsets in the Round of 16. This is the first time both teams have been in the Sweet 16 in school history.

The walls of the McNeal Pavilion are packed with photos of SOU’s student-athletes of the past decades. There is no space for more. So in what was likely my last photo opportunity in McNeal today, I took some photos for the future building that will be taking its place in fall of 2016.

With this morning’s 96-61 victory over Chicago’s Robert Morris University, the Lady Raiders move on the next round of the NAIA Women’s Basketball National Championship Tournament. Carly Meister had a big game, scoring 25 points with 9 rebounds. The Lady Raiders will play Friday morning (6:30 a.m. PST) against Tabor College; Tabor upset Marian University earlier in the day.

After a 2-2 week, in which the Raiders split doubleheaders with the #8 and #10 teams in the country, two Southern Oregon softball players received conference honorable mentions as players of the week. Conference play begins this weekend against Concordia and Northwest on the road. Next week the second set of rankings come out, and it will be interesting to see if the 19-9 Raiders crack the top 25 (given that most of their loses were to teams in the top ten).
The Wood House, in Eagle Point, Oregon, turns 145 years old this year. I have never been inside. In fact, until a recent trip to hike near Crater Lake, I had never stopped even though it is right on the road. I paused for this photo because 1) I was by myself in the car for once and 2) the fog made the setting look extra good.
