2018 NAIA Volleyball National Championship Pools Announced – Raiders may have caught a break

@SOURaiders @RaiderVB @MylaNorvell @elli_cook

#10 SOU landed in a pool with #7 Viterbo, #23 Jamestown, and unranked Saint Xavier. The top two teams advance. Being the second highest ranked team, according to the coaches, is nice, and having no top ranked teams in the pool is nicer. However, if you look at Massey Ratings, usually a better indicator than the coaches, things get even better.

Massey has Southern Oregon at #9, Viterbo at #13, Jamestown at #18 (behind both College of Idaho and Eastern Oregon–two teams the Raiders have defeated), and Saint Xavier at #34. SOU’s odds of advancing to the final 16 look promising.

Pool play begins November 27.

Massey Ratings bumped the Southern Oregon Men’s Soccer Team up a couple spots after yesterday’s playoff win. Massey has the Raiders’ defense ranked #1 in the NAIA. Massey also ranks Southern Oregon’s next foe as the #1 offense in the NAIA. Should be interesting…

SOU’s next opponent is Rio Grande, a team which has outscored its opponents 106-5. Not only have they not lost, they haven’t even tied. However, Massey indicates a much easier schedule for Rio Grande than the Raiders have gone through. For starters, the Cascade Conference has three teams in the final 16 teams. Rio Grande was the only team in the River States Conference to make the final 31.

Massey gives the Raiders a 38% chance of winning.

The Raiders won today over UC Merced and will move on to compete with the remaining fifteen teams for a national championship in Irvine, California. The Cascade Conference is represented by three teams.
