SOU in the snow
… or at least final exams are supposed to begin this morning at 10:30 a.m. Because half a foot of snow was dumped on campus on Friday evening, and temperatures have been between 3 and 25 degrees since, I’m not sure if everyone can make it to campus. Southern Oregon University has postponed today’s 8:00 a.m. finals, but the rest are still on.

This is not what Ashland looks like at the moment. Today’s photo was taken back in January in the mountains to the east of Ashland. In fact, there is no snow in Ashland as I write this. However, the forecast is for snow so they have closed the schools.
Snow has yet to fall in Ashland this winter. However, the forecast says snow will begin tomorrow morning and we are supposed to receive 2-4 inches tomorrow. Forecasts always seem to be wrong, though, so I’m predicting either no snow or 6-8 inches.

Mount Shasta from snowy Mount Ashland
Thinks are heating up around Ashland so I’m sharing a blast from the coldness of this past winter today.
(Actually, I have no idea if things are heating up in Ashland, but they should be this time of year. I created this post weeks ago, and am now in Japan so I don’t know what the weather is like in Ashland. This post has been preset to post on June 22. Hopefully it does, and hopefully I’m having a blast on my way to Korea.)
Today’s photo is from the archives. I took this in February of 2011 with my LX3. The Varsity sports some of the last neon left in town. I think there was about twice as much neon a decade ago as there is now in Ashland. At some point I imagine it will all be gone.

Spring and Autumn are interesting seasons in Ashland. You never know if it will be 30 degrees or 75 degrees. Sometimes in April things get mixed up and the green of Spring collides with the white of Winter.
Snowy Ashland, Oregon
Today’s photo is a little more than two years old. This is one of the last photos I took with my old LX3 before upgrading to DSLR technology.
It’s not often that you see the Oregon Shakespeare Festival’s heraldic banners in the snow since the banners don’t go up until late February (when OSF begins), and Ashland gets most of its snow before then.

I have taken quite a few photos of the Hannon Library on the SOU campus over the years, but somehow this is only the second one to make it on the blog. Grizzly Peak can be seen covered in snow in the distance of today’s photo. I took this picture a year ago, and Churchill Hall was undergoing renovations at the time.
I posted a photo of this tree before. Today’s version features a different angle and some fresh snow.
Photomerge from Mt. Ashland
Today’s pic is from this past weekend when I did some snowshoeing on Mt. Ashland. I took 7 vertical photos and put them together to come up with this one horizontal one. Doing such makes Mt. Shasta (to the left of center between the trees) and the rocks on my right look much smaller than they actually looked at the time. I’ll post individual photos of what Shasta and the rocks really looked like in a later entry.
