Ashland’s mOcean Volleyball Club

I have spent the past two Saturday’s in the Old South Medford High School Gym watching volleyball. The girls have fun playing numerous games in one day, but sitting on a hard, wood bleacher seat for 6+ hours is more painful than fun.

Ellie is still 12, but she is tall enough to block the ball. No one is tall enough to block the ball you see in this picture though.

SOU Volleyball headed to NAIA Volleyball National Championship

The 2010 Southern Oregon University Women’s Volleyball team continued their dominance this past Saturday night, defeating Holy Names University at home in Ashland in straight sets to open the first round of the NAIA Volleyball National Championship. Next they go to Iowa to take the next steps in order to go all the way this year.

All-American setter Lindsey Stone is doing her thing in this picture.

SOU’s volleyball team rolled to another victory Friday night. The win over Concordia University (from Portland, Oregon) pushed them to 11-1 in conference play (12-1 after winning on Saturday night too). While fun to watch, it wasn’t very exciting as the Concordia team didn’t seem to have much of a chance.

Ashland Middle School Football

Today’s photo is from halftime at yesterday’s AMS football game.

The vineyard in yesterday’s photo is in today’s photo on the mountainside on the left side of this picture.

And the field goal to win the game is….

Before I give you the result, I should back up a little bit. Last week SOU’s football team played Menlo at home. SOU’s lead in that game evaporated in the 4th quarter, and we all went home unhappy.

This week’s game had carbon copy written all over it with SOU jumping out to a 13-0 lead against Western Oregon University. WOU came back and moved ahead by one with just a few minutes left. It looked to be over until a bobbled catch on a 4th down and 12 put SOU in field goal range. Tyler Crowley easily made a 42-yard field goal earlier in the game so this shorter kick looked like a piece-of-cake, last-second victory for the Raiders.

A split second after I took this picture the ball did not go through the uprights, and we all went home unhappy once again.

Today’s photo is from the archives. I took this pic of Ellie back in 2007. However, I didn’t like it because it had too much noise. With Corel PaintShop Photo Pro X3 I easily removed most of the noise so now I’m more happy with the picture.

With Adobe Photoshop CS5 Extended I then took the other girl’s foot out of the picture and came up with a slightly better result. To remove an object from an image, after outlining the thing you want removed, select Edit from the menu, and then Fill and Content Aware.

Jessica Kuehlwein

If today’s photo looks familiar then you have a good memory. I took a similar photo two years ago of Jess Kuehlwein doing basically the same thing from a different angle.

The SOU women’s soccer team is off to their best start ever (4-1-1 as of this writing). They won this game, against Linfield College, in overtime 1-0.

Sunny day on the soccer field

My daughter’s soccer team was getting beat pretty badly a couple Saturday’s ago. The weather was perfect though, and I started taking more pictures of the scenery than the game. This is from the lower soccer field at Ashland Middle School.

A different angle on the same field and same goal can be seen here.

Batter Up

While waiting to pick up my daughter from Walker Elementary School, the weather and view were too nice to pass up.
