Rogue Valley Manor from US Cellular Community Park

Softball season is about to begin. We won the league last year with a record of 15-1. (I wasn’t there for the game we lost so I take no responsibility for it. 😉 ) We had our first practice of the year at the previously mentioned US Cellular. It had been raining much of the day so everything was very green. You can even see some mustard or other yellow flowers on the hill leading up to the Manor. A new portion of the Manor, that is currently under construction, can also be seen in this photo.

I-5 runs between the field and the Manor but no cars happened to be captured in this picture that I can see. The Rogue Valley Manor, by the way, is a retirement living center run by Pacific Retirement Services in Medford, just north of Ashland.

Spring Soccer

Last weekend we had perfect weather for soccer (and just about anything else). Temperatures were in the low 70s, the brownish-green winter grass turned a bright green, and the cherry blossoms were in full bloom.

This game was Ashland vs. Medford in Medford, 10-year old girls in a competitive league. The outcome? 0 – 0. Don’t you just love those high scoring soccer matches that can end without a victor? 😉

Ashland Rotary Centennial Ice Rink

Given that it was a school day, and it had been raining, it isn’t surprising that Ashland’s new ice skating rink sat empty earlier this week. The new rink has taken the place of the old Darex Family Ice Skating Rink generously donated by the town philanthropist. This one is sponsored by Ashland Rotary and was strongly pushed by one of Ashland’s famous residents, Tai Babilonia.

My daughter’s first goal

To break up all of the snowy pictures of the past little while I dug in the archives for this photograph from two summers ago when I captured my daughter’s first soccer goal. This soccer field is behind Ashland Middle School.

Winter basketball at Lake of the Woods

We spent today at “Snow Capades” which is held at Camp McLoughlin at Lake of the Woods about an hour east of Ashland. I’ll have some more pictures from today’s adventures in the coming weeks.

Ashland High School Volleyball

In the second round of the state playoffs Ashland beat the third ranked team from Pendleton to advance to the next round. Last year they took third in the state. Can they go all the way like they did in 2005?

SOU Soccer

Taken a while after yesterday’s photo, the clouds have now given way to some blue sky and the snow is rapidly melting on the top of Grizzly. Dennis Dunleavy is catching the SOU Soccer team in action.

SOU Soccer

Jessica Kuehlwien is the SOU keeper this year. Although only a Freshman she is something else. I’ve watched about 4 hours of SOU Soccer this year and she has yet to allow a goal while I’ve been there. Her saves tend to be on the heroic side too with crazy leaps or dives like this one.

SOU won this game against Evergreen College in double overtime 1-0. If you check out a game this season don’t expect it to be high scoring. It’s a young team with a great goalie.
