I was playing around with the modes on my LX3 on my bike ride the other day around Lithia Park. By flipping the switch to SCN and then choosing “Hi Speed Burst” I was able to take six pictures per second. You lose a lot of quality in so doing, but the pictures aren’t bad if you are in good lighting and close to your target. In this series I wasn’t close enough.

Check out the fun you can have with putting these pictures together backwards with a program like Windows Movie Maker.

On the way home from our Crater Lake field trip I was in the passenger seat. I took this picture out of the window while traveling at 60+ MPH on Highway 62. This body of water is known as Lost Creek Lake.

For some, unknown reason our guide never took us to the lake. I think most of the kids didn’t even see Crater Lake on this Crater Lake field trip. I wasn’t going to miss it though. When you have traveled to one of the Top 10 Natural Wonders of the World you may as well look at it.

Crater Lake was in fine form on this day.

At this point in the day I was very hopeful that the scenery at Crater Lake would be spectacular as we had some blue sky. The last two times I went to Crater Lake were disappointing as I didn’t get to see the lake due to poor weather conditions.

On our way to Crater Lake we stopped at the Rogue River Gorge. I’ve visited this location three or four times before, but the water was coming through at a far more ferocious rate than I have previously witnessed.

Today’s entry will wrap up the Chico trip. After departing Castle Lake we continued north on I-5.

We stopped in Yreka for lunch at Pat’s BBQ Express. I haven’t eaten often in Yreka simply because it is less than an hour from Ashland so if I’m hungry in Yreka I usually just press for home. I will definitely eat in Yreka more often now that I’ve experienced Pat’s BBQ. It was fantastic. I had pulled pork spaghetti with garlic bread. It was all very mouth watering. The smoker the pork came from was right out front giving off wonderful smells from the dinner meat.

My traveling companion had never been to Castle Lake before. Since it’s only about 10 miles off of I-5 I decided to take him there. I had no idea how beautiful it was going to be, never having been there in May before. Chico was about 90 degrees so I wasn’t expecting snow and ice on Castle Lake. The temperature was nice at almost 70 degrees, but the view was a winter one.

Amazingly enough, we were the only ones there enjoying the above scenery. I’ll share one more picture of Castle Lake with you tomorrow. To get to Castle Lake, follow the signs to Lake Siskiyou and just before you get there you’ll see one pointing to the left saying “Castle Lake 8 miles.”

On the side of Lithia Park away from the plaza there exists a swimming reservoir that mostly just locals know about. The water is extremely cold, but it’s a nice place on a hot day. Nude sunbathers are out on occasion too.

I took this picture about a month ago when no one was there. Last time I rode by, on a warmer day, there were kids swinging on a rope into the water. That would have made for a better picture, but I didn’t have my camera with me.

I took the above photograph from inside OMSI. The submarine is the USS Blueback. We took a tour of it many years ago when visiting OMSI so we didn’t feel the need to explore its insides this go around. The Marquam Bridge also makes an appearance in today’s picture.
