The night before heading to Brutal Assault was a magical one. I’m still hoping I can get my back fixed and make it to Prague and 2020 Brutal Assault.

Violator @ 2019 Brutal Assault

The quantity and quality of thrash metal bands at the 2019 Brutal Assault Festival was amazing. Off the top of my head, so I’m probably forgetting several bands, there was Violator, Anthrax, Jungle Rot, Carcass (not exactly thrash but…), Sacred Reich, Testament, Hellhammer, Demolition Hammer, Destruction, Tankard, Exumer, Metal Church, Voivod, and Sodom.
Violator appeared to have been on speed or cocaine or something as they hit the stage almost 10 minutes early (which I’ve never seen a band do at a festival before), played (ran around and talked) like maniacs, and then went overtime (something you rarely see at festivals).
I once owned an original Sepultura “Beneath the Remains” tour t-shirt from one of their first shows ever in the USA. I wish I had taken better care of it as that would be nice to have 30+ years later.

Today’s photo comes from my approach to the Smolny Convent in Saint Petersburg, Russia a few months ago. The place didn’t actually look this good in person as it was swarming with (mostly Chinese) tourists, tour buses, and construction vehicles and personnel. However, the hedge of flowers allowed me to obscure the madness down below for something a little more peaceful and serene.

Tough to put into words how amazing Nyredolk was at Metal Magic this past July. This video provides a taste but doesn’t come close to providing the meal that being there in the right frame of mind delivered.
