Rynek Underground

Today’s photo comes from the Bugle Tower of St. Mary’s Basilica in Krakow, Poland. The tower is currently closed for renovations, but it was open during Covid when I took this in 2021. The object in this photo is a fountain in Krakow’s main square that was built in 2010. If you look very closely you can see that it was operating. The water doesn’t run down the glass pyramid in the center. Sometimes the pyramid is completely covered in pigeons. The glass pyramid is the roof of a museum called the Rynek Underground. I didn’t visit the museum, but I don’t remember why I didn’t. Perhaps it wasn’t open because of Covid when I was in Krakow.

Chicago Jazz?

Not exactly.

The year was 2021. Concert venues were still closed in most places in the world. Krakow, Poland was beginning to reopen. I think this may have been the first act to perform at Chicago Jazz Live Music in 16 months or so. The other venues in Krakow didn’t have anything happening so this was about my only option on a Friday night. I think there were about six or seven of us in the audience, and I was probably the only one not somehow related to the performers.

Kraków Barbican (June 2021)

It’s not every day that you run into perfectly preserved buildings from the 15th Century. I don’t know if the barbican normally looks like this as it is now a tourist attraction, but during Covid, everything was closed so tourists weren’t crawling all over this gem.
