Okunoin 奥の院 koyasan

Trapped under a shrine in Okunoin (奥の院)

Today’s photo is what happens when you are walking around Koyasan and rain begins to fall heavily. I took refuge under the only shelter nearby which was this small shrine. You can’t really see the rain in this photo, but here is a photo I took less than a minute later in the other direction.

Izakaya (居酒屋) with yakiniku in Kofu

Hanging out in a place like this on a hot summer night in Japan is one of many reasons I’m hoping to go back this summer.

BTW, the fans on the counter aren’t for the customers. They are for the cook to fan the flames just right to cook the skewered chicken.

Nishikubo Hachiman Jinja Summer Festival (西久保八幡神社例大祭[夏祭り2013])

Continuing our October/Halloween related posts, today’s photo (beyond the title) really has nothing to do with October or Halloween as the Japanese do their dancing (盆踊り) to honor their dead ancestors in the middle of summer.
