Itsukushima (厳島), AKA Miyajima
Today’s photo is what happens when you are walking around Koyasan and rain begins to fall heavily. I took refuge under the only shelter nearby which was this small shrine. I took photos while I waited for the rain to subside. I could see sun so I figured it wouldn’t last long. You can’t really see the rain in this photo, but here is a photo I took less than a minute later in the other direction.

Although Japan’s temples and shrines can sit rather quietly during the winter, tomorrow is Setsubun so if you are in Japan February 3 is a good day to give your local shrine or temple a visit to see if they have something going on.
Continuing our October/Halloween related posts, today’s photo (beyond the title) really has nothing to do with October or Halloween as the Japanese do their dancing (盆踊り) to honor their dead ancestors in the middle of summer.
