Today (May 5) is one of the strangest holidays in the USA, featuring long lines at Mexican restaurants and an increase in Corona and margarita sales; Mexican Independence Day is actually September 16. I was in Guanajuato on September 16 many years ago and the celebration is crazy. Since the revolt happened near and through Guanajuato I suppose the party there is a bit bigger than anywhere else in Mexico.

While wandering the streets of Guanajuato last summer I saw this boy launching this sphere into the air. In the air it would expand, only to contract by the time it landed back in his hands. I quickly reached into my camera bag. Luckily he continued the routine enough times for me to catch him in action.

Guanajuato, Mexico after dark

Sadly, my trip to Guanajuato, Mexico last summer was likely my last as the program I taught in appears to be going away.

Today’s photo is of the intersection where streets “28 de Septiembre”, “Galarza” (to the right), and “Positos” intersect. The hotel on the left has a sign over it (not pictured) which says “Paradon De La Galarza Hotel Diego Rivera”. Head straight down the left fork (Positos) to get to the Museo Diego Rivera.
