Rick Nielsen of Cheap Trick @ 2025 New Orleans Jazz Fest
The second concert I ever went to was Cheap Trick. 13 and 14 year old me listened to their “One on One” album a very large number of times. 22 years later I took my daughter to see them for her first concert, and she went home with almost 10 guitar picks Rick sent her way. A couple of nights ago, and 20 years after my daughter’s first concert, Rick was still dealing the picks.
The setlist wasn’t my favorite at Jazz Fest as it featured no songs off of “One on One”, didn’t start with “Hello There”, and skipped a number of other favorites like “Heaven Tonight”, “Gonna Raise Hell”, and “Big Eyes”. Still, it was a great time, and fun to see a band 42 years after the first time.

I’m planning on going to the New Orleans Jazz Fest for the first time this year. The band announcement happened earlier today. It will be my first time in Louisiana.
