Located on the opposite side of the Continental Divide as Lake McDonald, you don’t have to look into the distance to see the Rocky Mountains when gazing at Saint Mary Lake. We saw a moose and a grizzly bear in the lake.
The last two nights we’ve had some fun watching the Perseids from Southern Oregon. Two nights ago we sat on a friend’s deck in Ashland. Another friend brought a telescope so we could check out Saturn’s rings and Jupiter’s moons.
Last night we went to friend’s ranch halfway between Klamath Falls and Lakeview with no lights on the horizon at all. Today’s photo comes from that setting. The bright “star” near the bottom is Jupiter. I’m counting five meteors in this 30 second exposure. Are any of those streaks satellites instead of meteors? I don’t know. How do you tell?
