Petersen Rock Garden – Swan boat (March 2021)

I could find only two photos on the internet of this boat in operation–both appeared to be from the 1960s or early 1970s. Maybe this beauty had been dry docked for 50 years when I took the photo almost five years ago. Actually the wood and paint are much newer than that so maybe it had been repurposed in the fairly recent past. I don’t think the ponds/lagoon had water for about a decade until new owners took over in 2023. I haven’t been back to see the improvements.

Petersen Rock Garden with Mt. Bachelor in the distance

I’m not sure if the ponds, moats, etc. at Petersen Rock Garden are full during a certain time of year or if that just doesn’t happen anymore, but there was no water in March of 2021 when we visited.

(a small part of the) Petersen Rock Garden (Redmond, Oregon)

When it comes to Oregon oddities, the Petersen Rock Garden property probably cracks the top 10. We were there in March of 2021. In September of 2022 the place sold for $800,000. Google currently lists it as “closed” so maybe a restoration is in the works?
