My random, desktop image of day is from my walk from Nippori Station to my hotel in Yanaka in the middle of the night. I’m not sure why I took this photo. Maybe I wanted to figure out what Tas Kebabi was later. Or maybe the thought of a king size kakigori caught my attention. I do remember it being very hot, even for the late hour.

Yanaka (Tokyo, Japan) house

You won’t find many houses remaining like this in Tokyo, although similar dwellings aren’t out of the question in more rural parts of Japan. If you do find a place like this in Tokyo, you can be sure that you are walking the streets of Yanaka.

菊見煎餅総本店

This cracker shop has been in business since the 19th Century. You can find it across the street from the famous Isetatsu paper shop in Yanaka (Sendagi actually).

Kikumi Senbei Sohonten, 3-37-16 Sendagi, Bunkyo-ku. 03-3821-1215. Open 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Closed Mondays. One minute walk from Sendagi subway station.
