#4 Zay Taylor

The Raiders came in, not surprisingly, as the #4 ranked team in the country in today’s pre-season NAIA poll. Meaningless, right? Wrong. Had SOU gone into last season as the #4 ranked team, they would have ended up with home field advantage throughout the playoffs and likely ended up in Florida in December. Instead, they were forced to win a couple of road playoff games, despite their perfect record, to make it to Florida last year. They lost the second in double overtime and were sent home with a 12-1 record.

The Frontier Conference power teams may have shifted. Perhaps Carroll College, Montana Western, and Montana Tech won’t be the teams to beat. This year it may be Rocky Mountain and College of Idaho. Rocky is a road game, and the Raiders will play the Yotes both at home and away.

SOU campus (Worland Stadium Plaza and Lithia Motors Pavilion) looking out on Grizzly Peak

The last couple years have been challenging photography wise because of the construction on the new Lithia Motors Pavilion. Football and soccer had an ugly, construction background for many angles, and while Ashland High School gym lighting isn’t the worst, it isn’t as good as the new pavilion on the Southern Oregon University campus.

You can check out the new digs, in less than three weeks, outdoors for the men’s soccer game (noon) on August 24 or indoors for volleyball (7 p.m.) on the same day.
